‘The World of Folktales’ - ISA ACTIVITY

Students of class I and II participated in the British Council ISA project ‘The World of Folktales’ with full flair. The aim of this project was to revive the tradition of storytelling and to explore different cultures and enhance literacy skills. The folktales 'Panchtantra','Jataka Tales','Arabian Night' were mainly from India, Burma and UAE. Each was an interesting tale, interspersed with curious characters and an insightful moral at the end. Stories 'The big Lion and a little Rabbit' from Panchtantra, 'Timid Hare' from Jataka Tales, 'Aladdin and the magic lamp' from Arabian Nights etc. were read aloud in class. Students made an oral presentation too on Folktales and supported with elaborate props and costumes. The activity gave students a chance to practice team-building. Fun and excitement was observed and the learning was stretched beyond books. It was extremely insightful for the students as they discovered how several stories came into being, their journeys through the ages and how they are still entertaining and enriching us today. Students of Grade I happily designed artistic book covers in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes based on the contents of the book. Their illustrations were both eye-catching and innovative. An extremely successful endeavor! The ISA activities turned out to be extremely engaging at all levels and were immensely enjoyed by the children said school principal-Dr.Roopa Marwaha Bhalla
